Description
This rig is a CAMPING MACHINE and on top of that it is one of a kind. It has been rebuilt much more solid and sturdy than a newer Airstream. You won't find screws and riveta on the floor after driving all day on bumpy roads. We put way more money into this rebuild than we can recoup but for our family it was worth every penny.
Our efforts are your gain.
We literally did not travel to a single campground or RV park where we didn't get constant comments and compliments on this rig.
This is also a rather rare Airstream in that it is painted (Airstream did this in the 70s due to a temporary rise in aluminum costs) and it has WRAP-AROUND WINDOWS ON BOTH ENDS (which is not the case with most Airstream Argosy travel trailers).
We have lived and camped (Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier, Tetons, entire West Coast -- to name a few) in this rig for 10 months with 2 adults, 2 kids, and 2 dogs. We have made amazing memories and are ready to pass her along to someone new. A bittersweet transition because this rig is genuinely a HOME. We have purchased a bigger 5th wheel for more space for our family.
1976 Airstream Argosy fully renovated and refurbished a process that took us nearly 2 years. All work performed by licensed contractors.
To start the renovation, the rig was completely gutted.
Subfloor was removed.
Frame was etched, primed, and painted.
Inner skins removed and completely re-wired by a Certified Marine Electrician (we found that the marine service industry was more competent than RV technicians)
Upgraded to 5200 lb torsion double axels and brakes (10,400 lb max capacity these are American-made Dexter axels)
20K marine grade paint job (the rig was literally painted like a boat to last)
4 inch lift kit added for higher clearance
330 watts of solar on the roof - Victron solar controller all top-of-the-line Victron electrical components installed (https://www.victronenergy.com)
3000-watt Victron inverter/charger with Bluetooth monitoring - smart shunt
12-volt DC to DC Victron charger (for charging from the tow vehicle while you travel on the road)
200-amp hours of lithium ion batteries TWO 100-amp batteries
ProPride anti-sway trailer hitch ((https://www.propridehitch.com))
Vitrifrigo 12v drawer fridge/freezer (https://www.vitrifrigo.com/en_us -- drawer fridge allows for more counter space)
Custom mattresses ordered specifically to fit massive king master bed and upper bunk twin bed (https://www.charlestonmattress.com) there is a lower crib/toddler bunk that could be converted into storage space or another bunk
Force10 Marine 3 Burner Stove and Oven (https://www.force10.com we baked sourdough breads in this baby)
2 Fantastic Vent Overhead Fans
Natures Head Composting Toilet (this was a game-changer for us -- https://natureshead.net)
**Due to the composting toilet, there is no need for black water disposal. So we had an RV technician combine the grey and black water tanks to provide greater grey-water storage. This extends dry-camping and off-grid capabilities.
Tank heaters (it gets COLD in National Parks even in the summer)
Dometic Penguin Low Profile AC with heat pump (heat works down to 30 degrees)
Dometic tankless water heater all new pex plumbing and fixtures (https://www.dometic.com)
Suburban propane heat furnace (this provides a second source of heat that is non-electrical)
So many more details that can only be appreciated in person.
Dry weight 6420 lbs.
We pulled the trailer with a 2017 F250 Diesel XLT (also for sale 51,000 miles - $40,000)
Package deal $115,000
