'Old Yeller' is a 1971 Ford Econoline Custom 200 Super Van that was converted to a Class B Camper Van when new by Motor Homes Inc. of Lorain Ohio. They call it their 'minihome', and it is right at 16' long.

This is a one family owned unit out of North Dakota that was always stored inside when not in use. When we got it had not been on the road for 30 years. A storm damaged the pole barn, but not the Camper Van. That is when the family decided to sell it, and we got ourselves a fun restoration project.

First of all the van has 61,000 original miles. It is extremely solid and rust free. It has original paint with a few touch-up's over the years. Originally it came with a 302 V8 that was seized up from sitting so we replaced it with a Newer 5.0 Roller Cam, GT40p heads. It has a 3sp auto transmission, power steering, and 4 wheel drum brakes. An extensive list of new mechanical parts include the following: 5 Tires, brakes, exhaust, 5.0 motor, water pump, fuel pump, master cylinder, heater core, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, Accell Coil, thermostat, shocks with rear overloads, belts, hoses, batteries, cables, gauges, filters, fluids, rebuilt carburetor, power steering pump, steering bushing, etc.

Old Yeller runs very strong, and drives excellent. All of the factory gauges work as well as the aftermarket gauges. (Alt, Oil Pressure, and Engine Temp). It is estimated that the motor is a 2000 model, and has less than 1,000 miles on it and came from a salvage yard that gets old stock units directly from Ford. We used it as a long block and installed all of the original 1971 Ford parts on it to keep it as original as possible. So it has all new gaskets on the intake, oil pan, water pump, front cover, and valve covers. While it was apart the inside of the motor looked like it was brand new.

The underneath of the van is in amazing condition, with no rust or rot.

We powerwashed all of the years of dirt off of it, and painted the whole undercarriage to help preserve it for years to come. For exhaust it has stock manifolds to stock y pipe. From there it is 2.5" Raptor Turbo Muffler, and 2.5" custom bent exhaust back to the stock exit location. It has a very nice rumble to it, and lets the 5.0 breath way better than the stock 2" exhaust that we replaced. We also added new shocks with rear coil overload shocks to help keep it level when loading it down with camping gear.

Ford Van Options,.? Not many,,lol. Good ole Crank Windows with manual smoker vents, it has a vintage AM FM Cassette with one center speaker that is new. There is a heater, with defrost, wipers with high and low speeds, fresh air vents on both sides, and a 12V power port. (better known as a Cig Lighter). Pretty vintage and basic stuff.

Now let's talk about the Minihome Camper Conversion. The basics is that it will sleep 4, 2 on the flip out couch, and 2 small folks on the upper pull out bunk (will need cushions). It has a rear kitchen that includes a new 3 burner stove, microwave, sink, cook vent, cupboards and a couple of drawers. On the right side there is what looks like a refrigerator, well it is not. What it is, is what they called an Ice Box way back when. You put ice, (or dry ice) on the shelf and as it melts it drains out of the van while keeping your stuff cold. Pretty Cool! (yes, pun intended).

Other systems include the frame mounted propane tank that runs the stove, as well as the thermostatically controlled furnace located on the passenger side. There is a new 12V deep cell sealed battery that charges up when the unit is plugged in, or driving down the road. It will run the new LED Lights, 12V water pump, and the 12V power panel that includes a digital volt gauge, on off switch, power and USB ports. For shore power there is a 25' self storing pull out power cord that is located in the back of the unit. When plugged in, you can use the microwave, and the 2 other 110V outlets that are installed in the unit.

There is no water heater, so the hot and cold sink faucet serves a dual purpose. When camping with full water hookup, you use the left or hot water knob. When not hooked up to water, you turn on the switch for the 12V water pump, and then use the right water knob. There is a large fresh water tank under the hidden bed. The sink water just drains out the back of the van, there is no holding tanks.

In the drivers side rear corner is a closet or 'bathroom'. While there is no RV toilet, there is a new porta potty located in the closet. It really is not usable there, but it is a good place to store it. To actually use it, you would need to pull it out and use it in the van area. Good thing there are all new curtains! It is designed to be easily removed if you don't want to take it on a trip and will leave a nice flat storage shelf for all of your stuff.

The interior was in great shape as well but needed some improvements. We wanted to keep it as original as possible as far as layout, and materials but upgraded what was needed. The interior original fiberglass work is amazing, where the table stores, and the walls around the kitchen so we left all of that. It has new laminate wood plank flooring, industrial metal counter tops, with matching ice box door, new wood treatments where needed, all new curtains including front surround, new LED lights, including the factory dome light.

Everything works as it should, it runs and drives great, with plenty of power.

I am sure I am missing some items but check out the pics and let me know if you have any questions at Six one 6- Three 18- O118.
