Great Boondocking vehicle. In 2 years we only paid to camp twice. With the All Season Xplorer Package, 4 season insulation, enclosed and heater underbelly (i.e. water tanks), dual pane windows, 400 Ah Lithium Batteries and 800 watts of solar you can use this year round. We have used it in December, although in extreme cold we dry camp, i.e. without water.
The 28SS is built on the Ram 5500 SLT chasis with factory 4 wheel drive, a Cummins 6.7L I6 Turbo Diesel Engine (360 hp / 800 lb-ft of Torque) with a AISIN HD 6-speed Automatic Transmission. It will tow 10,000 lbs. We added Liquid Springs to the suspension (used in ambulances for stability). A quad view camera system gives a rear view mirror view and extra side views
We used it for short trips due to my wife's extreme motion sickness; that also means she has to drive. With her bad shoulders she cannot drive far. We put on 3,800 miles, all highway, no offroad. (Although it is built for offroad.) We have decided to downsize to a class B. A very difficult decision for me as I love the 28SS.
It includes an 8 kwatt Onan Generator (72 hr), 50 Amp service, 3,000 watt inverter and automatic generator start. The Ram has 2 alternators and recharges the Lithium batteries quickly when you drive.
The 2 AC cool the bedroom and the kitchen area quickly. (my wife hates the heat!) The slide opens up the kitchen/main living area nicely. It has automatic leveling, lots of storage, Winegard In-Motion T4 Satellite dish, 2 TVs,and lots of storage space. It also has a Queen sized Innomax adjustable (set to your sleep number) bed, 10 cu ft 2-way refrigerator, gas range, convection microwave, and a roomy shower.
We are non-smokers and no kids or pets have stayed in this RV. we will include a 50 amp extention cord and a surge protector.
