The 2018 Ram 5500 Laramie trim package with custom Utility Bodywerks aluminum hauler bed did NOT sell with the trailer and is now negotiable for purchase. The asking price for the Ram is now reduced again 2/1 to $69,000. We purchased the Ram new in 2018 from a dealer in Las Vegas, NV as a Ram 5500 Chassis Cab. The dealer drop shipped the Ram from the factory in Georgia to Utility Bodywerks, an upfitter located in Elkhart, Indiana (https://utilitybodywerks.com/) Bodywerks fabricated and installed an all-aluminum western hauler bed onto the chassis. The bed was undercoated with Ziebart undercoating, and the bed interior was covered with Line-X bed liner. Bodywerks also removed the Ram factory spring rear suspension and replaced it with a Kelderman air ride suspension system. This system auto levels upon starting the vehicle. There is an air dump feature controlled by a factory upfitter switch in the truck cab. Bodywerks also installed a new Trailer Saver air ride hitch in the bed of the truck, which is connected to the Kelderman air supply for easy adjustment. There is an air pressure gauge and a toggle valve in the driver’s forward storage compartment. The Trailer Saver air ride hitch has 3 air bags and is rated at 5,000 lbs pin weight and 32,000 lbs GVTW. Together with the air ride suspension, the air ride hitch gives an outstanding and smooth ride for a fifth wheel trailer. This combination worked extremely well for our fifth wheel trailer loaded out at 23,000 lbs. Bodywerks also installed an ATTA auxiliary diesel fuel tank in the truck bed forward of the air ride hitch. This auxiliary fuel tank has enabled us to purchase fuel at much more competitive prices. The OEM fuel tank is 54 gallons and the auxiliary tank holds 60 gallons. This total of 114 gallons of fuel storage on board gives the truck a range of about 900 miles when pulling a load. Together with the Gas Buddy app we have been able to save quite a bit on fuel purchases by buying where the prices are more favorable and foregoing purchase where the prices are high. There is a full-size spare tire in mounted in the truck bed. There are also aircraft style adjustable tie downs on the bed sides, forward and rear. There are also 4 stainless steel swivel eye tie downs mounted on the bed floor in the four corners of the bed.
