Description

MY MOTORHOME HAS BEEN SOLD.
This 2008 Itasca Horizon 40FD was the flagship of the Itasca line, included virtually every available option, and was originally priced at over $300,000.

When I purchased this motorhome, I was specifically focusing on the 2008 and 2009 model years for two important reasons. 2008 was the first year the motorhome industry installed flat panel TVs, and 2009 was the last year diesel trucks and motorhomes were sold without the complex diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) systems. As a result, this Horizon has a powerful and efficient 425 HP Cummins turbo-diesel engine that is not encumbered by a DEF system and can accommodate high-definition flat screen TVs that are easy to upgrade as technology advances.

Since purchasing this coach I’ve added a Winegard Trav’ler HD auto-seeking satellite dish. This dish folds down to a low profile when traveling, and automatically locks on to the strongest available satellite signal once powered up. This upgrade cost over $2,000. I also installed a Cradlepoint “hot spot” and router. Cradlepoint devices are used by first responder fleets and cost over $1,000.

This coach also includes three additional after-market upgrades. First, the standard washer-drier combo unit that was popular during this era has been replaced. These combo devices appeared to be a great idea, but they didn't work very well, so I installed separate stackable washer and dryer units in place of the original combo device. Second, I added a TV mount outside on the patio side of the coach. The coach came equipped with an outdoor entertainment center so it’s easy to hang and connect an outdoor TV for tailgating or watching movies under the 20ft patio awning. You can simply disconnect the TV in the lounge and hang it on outside mount if you don’t want to travel with extra TVs. Third, I had an electrician install a Demensions Standby Power System to the coach’s electrical system. This device allows you to connect the coach’s 8,000-watt diesel powered generator to your home’s electrical system. Fortunately, I never needed this capability, but had there been a prolonged electrical outage I would have been able to power my home with an 8,000-watt generator supplied by a 100-gallon diesel fuel tank.

If you want to spend less than $90,000 and avoid the substantial depreciation that comes with purchasing a new or late model motorhome you owe it to yourself to look at my Horizon 40FD.
