Is this 2021 RAM Promaster a travel van? Absolutely. With lots of creature comforts, safety features, and a panoramic view, it's a pleasure to drive, especially on the highway. Is this also a passenger van? Of course, with three-point belts and leather seating for six. How about an overnight camper van? Sure, the sofa bed sleeps two comfortably, with room for more. Can it be used as an occasional work van? The side lift, cargo capacity, and rear hitch, make hauling and towing a cinch. Is it also a disability van? Easily done, with its chair lift, floor anchors, and three-point belting.
This Tempest X (R/T package) embodies comfort and convenience. Up front, captain chairs include 6-way seat, lumbar, and armrest adjustments. Power windows, locks, and heated, folding side mirrors make driving easy. The center mirror gives an interior view or flips to an adjustable rear camera view. The instrument cluster includes analog speed and tach dials flanking a digital readout. The 5” center UConnect touch screen displays the main backup camera view, and controls for audio, NAV, safety, trip, and other settings.
Rear passengers can enjoy a 14” flat screen with multiple inputs, headphones, and remote, as well as adjustable roof vents, LED lighting, speakers, USB jacks, armrests with cup holders, and storage cubbies. An additional 16 cubic feet of rear carpeted storage space accommodates tools, luggage, and camping supplies.
For overnight camping comfort, the 43” x 67” sofa bed is complemented by insulated walls and ceiling, a skylight and rear windows with privacy glass and pull-down night shades, and insulated magnetic privacy panels for the cockpit glass. For more convenience (without the ongoing upkeep of water, propane, and sewage systems), simply plug in a 12V cooler and strap a table or porta-potti to the lift. The center cargo area’s rubber flooring resists wear, stains, and spills.
For occasional work tasks, up to 750 lbs. of wheeled cargo can be lifted into the van and secured by floor straps. A Class III 2” hitch, with 4-pin and 7-pin hookups, tows up to 6,900 lbs. Up on the roof, six T-posts can mount a utility rack.
As a mobility van, the Braun side lift includes operator and passenger controls. Four adjustable floor straps and a shoulder/lap belt protect the passenger in his or her wheelchair.
Safety features include blind-spot monitoring, backup sensors, tire pressure monitoring, and a full-size spare. Increased visibility is provided by high-mounted head and tail lights, and amber roof marker lights.
